A spike belt had to be used on Saturday night to stop a short police pursuit in Barrie.
A Barrie police officer was responding to an emergency call late Saturday night, when a driver became paranoid and attempted to flee. The officer noticed the vehicle being driven dangerously and tried to stop it.
After a brief pursuit, officers deployed a spike belt near the Barrie landfill – the car crashed a short distance away into a house. Police say the driver ran from the scene, but was located shortly after by a canine unit.
It’s unclear if anyone was injured or how much damage was sustained to the house.
The 30-year-old Barrie man is charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, failing to remain at the scene of a crash.
The accused will appear before a court at a future date for a bail hearing.
