A well-known event park north of Barrie has been sold to a new owner.

The Burl’s Creek Event Park is home to multiple festivals, concerts, and flea markets.

Don Hanney, who has owned the property for 30 years, is retiring.

The new owner is a company out of London, which plans to keep the name of the park as well as many of the old events.

But they’re also planning to bring in some new, and bigger concerts.

The country music festival “Boots and Hearts” has been booked, and is expected to draw thousands of people next summer.

Work crews have been busy this month widening the venue for the shows.

As for Hanney, he says it’s been a great ride.

“It's not about the music…it's not about the car parts…it's the people,” he said, reflecting on his years running the park.

Hanney says four generations of his family have grown up on the land, and says it won’t be easy to say goodbye.

However, he plans to stay somewhat involved by continuing to run the park’s automotive flea market.
