The number of new homes being built in Wasaga Beach is on the rise. That's good news for housing developers and homebuilders who saw a real dip after 2008.

Robert Turcic has been working in Wasaga Beach as a general contractor for 12 years. He says the construction business is not what it was before the financial crisis in 2008 but business is slowly picking up

“The worst is behind us. My numbers are climbing for August and September is building so I'm hopeful we are slowly climbing out of this recession.”

As of June of this year the Town of Wasaga Beach issued permits for 162 new homes, town houses and condominiums compared to only 97 permits issued for the same period in 2012.

Most of the new construction can be attributed to the Baywood Homes development on the east side of Wasaga Beach. Currently 56 homes are being finished and foundations have already been completed for another 40.  Beverly Brandi is sales manager at Baywood Homes and says this development was started in 2008 but its full speed ahead now because homes are selling here again.

“I see one to twenty people a day, coming in not just to consider buying but excited about the confidence in Wasaga Beach, they are excited to see something new, something fresh.”

Wasaga Beach building statistics for July also show continued growth, the total value of construction so far this year is just under 50 million dollars.

In Collingwood permits for 65 new units were issued as of June compared to 76 in 2012.
