A boat owner is trying figure out what is next after his boat sunk in Kempenfelt Bay in Barrie on Thursday afternoon.

Police say the boat, which was anchored in the bay, somehow broke free around the lunch hour and slammed into the rocks near Heritage Park. A passerby noticed and called for help.

The owner of the vessel tried to save the boat and so did some people who were in the area.

Moments after working the 28-foot boat off the rocks, the vessel’s owner lost control and it was again pushed into the rocks and that is when police began to help.

“We were able to get it here but it was taking on water right from the beginning so by the time we actually got to the city ramp here the owner just had time to get off,” says Barrie Police Constable Eric Savoie.

“Pretty upset, pretty upset, no insurance so it’s going to cost me a fortune,” says boat owner Mike Webb.

The boat was pulled out of the water Thursday afternoon.
