Baycats win Dominico Cup
The Barrie Baycats defeated the Guelph Royals 6-2 in Game 4 of the IBL Finals in Guelph Saturday night to win the Jack and Lynne Dominico Cup.
The Baycats remained perfect the entire postseason with a 10-0 record en route to their eighth IBL Championship in franchise history.
Brandon Hernandez opened the scoring for the visiting Baycats with a two-run double in the third, his first of three hits. Ryan Rijo gave the Cats a 3-0 lead by driving in Hernandez two batters later and finished the night 4-for-5.
That would be plenty of offence as Playoff MVP Frank Garcés allowed just one unearned run in eight innings pitched. Brad Grieveson closed it out in the ninth, prompting a big celebration among players, coaches, volunteers, and the handful of Baycats fans who made the trip to Guelph.
The Baycats are IBL Champions for the first time since 2019 and the seventh time in the last ten seasons.
