Owen Sound declares significant weather event

With snow squalls continuing to impact the region on Saturday, the City of Owen Sound declared a significant weather event in response to the impact of the forecast on the city’s road and sidewalk infrastructure.

According to the city, the declaration in not a notice of a reduced level of service or road closure. Rather, the city states that it aims to notify the public that caution must be observed when travelling on city-maintained roads, and that restoring roads to optimal conditions may take longer than usual.

The city advises travel for essential purposes only, and that all municipal streets and sidewalks are considered to be in a ‘state of repair’ until the end of the significant weather event is announced.

Motorists are urged to use caution and provide themselves with extra time to reach their destination, while remaining aware of possible unseen ice, wind gusts, drifting snow or low visibility conditions.

The city states that the significant weather event is to remain in effect until further notice.

The City of Barrie and the Township of Springwater also made significant weather event declarations on Saturday.
