Barrie man accused of sex trafficking to pursue bail review
A Barrie man accused of sex trafficking appeared virtually from jail on Tuesday with plans to seek a bail review.
Casey Perryman’s matter was adjourned to pretrial in the Superior Court of Justice more than a year after he was charged with trafficking an international student in the sex trade.
Provincial police said the young woman was exploited in the sex trade through an online advertisement by a company known as ‘Scarlet Room Agency,’ which claimed to provide security and training for sex workers.
The investigation launched in January 2023 and was part of the OPP’s intelligence-led Joint Forces Strategy to fight human trafficking.
Perryman was arrested months later and charged with two counts of procuring a person for sexual services, materially benefitting and advertising sexual services along with sexual assault.
Police revealed a second complainant was identified in the investigation.
According to court documents obtained by CTV News, Perryman has a lengthy criminal record, including firearms offences dating back 20 years for which he was convicted and sentenced.
The accused is scheduled to make his next court appearance in December.
The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
