The City of Barrie introduced new programs to help developers add new housing and businesses create job opportunities.

The City announced the launch of its Concierge Programs on Thursday, which are meant to cut through the red tape and fast-track approvals for projects.

Through the programs, a City staffer will work with developers and business owners to guide them through everything from site selection to approvals, including priority reviews for building permits and coordinated support with outside agencies.

Mayor Alex Nuttall said the initiative is part of the City’s commitment to removing obstacles and accelerating progress.

“This is about building a community where people can afford to live, work, and find good jobs right here in Barrie,” the mayor stated.

The Programs

The Housing Development Concierge Program helps non-profit and private developers create housing projects like affordable rentals, transitional housing, and non-profit housing.

It supports them through pre-submission research, funding applications, and partnerships.

The Employment Development Concierge Program focuses on helping businesses in key sectors like advanced manufacturing and health sciences.

The goal is to fast-track large projects with significant job creation potential.

Complete details on the programs, including how to apply, is available online.
