Barrie honours National Grieving Children's Day at Meridian Place with Jason McCoy
It may have been a chilly night, but that didn't stop many from turning out to Meridian Place to see country star Jason McCoy headlining an event near and dear to his heart.
McCoy is an honourary member of the board of the Seasons Centre for Grieving Children.
"Today is actually National Children's Grief Awareness Day," McCoy told the bundled-up audience.
Meridian place was lit blue to help spread as much awareness as possible.
The local centre in Barrie works to support children who have suffered a devastating loss, and since the pandemic, the need has risen.
"One in every 14 children will experience the grief of the loss of a loved one before age 14," said Rowley Ramey, co-founder and managing director at Seasons Centre
"So this is a big need within the community and bringing awareness to this need and making it more normalized and allowing that support to happen is large," he said.
