Barrie area gardeners share homegrown produce to help feed those in need

A special kind of meet-up saw area gardeners share and trade some of their homegrown produce Saturday, addressing food insecurity along the way.
Living Green Barrie hosted what is called a harvest share, asking gardeners to bring in their extra produce to donate.
"This time of year, we have such an abundance," said Andee Pelan, project director. "We want to be able to do this every year, it's about getting everyone to come down and figure out a way to get this food into the bellies of those who really need it."
Gardeners could even learn a few helpful tricks along the way, with tips shared to preserve fruits and vegetables better.
Earlier this week, Living Green Barrie volunteers went to homes with fruit trees to pick from them as well.
