Attempted theft of groceries thwarted by staff and police

After closing the front doors of a grocery store on First Street North in Gravenhurst, police say a man slipped in through an employee entrance at around 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Gravenhurst man allegedly attempted to steal several consumable goods, but employees intervened.

Police say the man assaulted an employee while trying to steal the goods.
Officers arrived on scene and placed a 52-year-old man under arrest.
He is facing charges of break-and-enter, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, among others.
The accused was held in custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge for a bail hearing.
