Police closed an area in Orillia to investigate reports of a suspicious man walking with a gun Thursday morning.

Orillia OPP attended the area of Barrie Road and Dufferin Street around 9 a.m. and immediately shut down the roads.

"Within 10 minutes, officers located the suspected male and placed him under arrest," provincial police stated.

Police say they determined the firearm was a BB gun, and there was no threat to public safety.

The area has since reopened.
