Every year Barb Monaco brings flowers to an address on Browning Trail in Barrie to mark the anniversary of her daughter’s murder.

On Oct. 14, 2005, April Dobson was shot in the back of the head and killed while sitting on the porch of a friend’s house. The person responsible for her murder has not yet been found.

“She was here helping a friend that night. She was minding her own business sitting on the porch having a glass of wine, someone came up and took her life for no reason,” says Monaco.

On Wednesday, Monaco met with Barrie police to get an update on their investigation. A $50,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Dobson's killer.

Police say the reward did help generate some tips, but those leads were soon exhausted. They remain confident that the person responsible for Dobson's murder will be caught because they believe somebody in the community has a critical piece of information that will help solve the case.

“We believe somebody has a key piece of evidence that can help solve this case. This incident took place in a close knit community, it took place in a residential area, so we truly believe there is somebody out there who knows what happened that night, says Barrie police Const. Sarah Bamford.

A person of interest was seen fleeing the area on a bicycle. He is described as a white male, with a thin build. He was between the ages of 16 and 20 at the time. Police believe he was familiar with the area.

Monaco says she can't put her daughter’s memories to rest until the killer is found or turns himself in.

“I wake up in the middle of the night crying, dreaming about her. It’s very hard sometimes. The dreams are so real, she is here with me, but she's not. “

A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. at Heritage Park in Barrie on Wednesday to honour Dobson.
