Allegedly impaired driver found with machete-style knife under seat in Orillia

Officers patrolling in Orillia pulled over a vehicle and allegedly found a machete-style knife under the driver’s seat.
Police say the officers conducted the traffic stop on Wednesday night, shortly before midnight, after noticing the vehicle failed to stay in its lane along Front Street.

They say the officers believed the driver was impaired and launched an investigation, which included a search of the vehicle.
Along with the weapon, police say drug paraphernalia was discovered inside the car.
The accused, a 33-year-old man from Oro-Medonte, is charged with impaired driving, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and two counts of failing to comply with probation orders.
His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days as a result of the charges, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
