Orangeville county roads are closed after a hydro pole snapped early Tuesday morning.

County Road 109 between County Roads 11 and 12 was closed so hydro crews could begin to restore power to residents and businesses after an ice storm tore through central Ontario Monday.

Initially, 5,000 customers were without electricity, said Hydro One spokesperson Tiziana Baccega Rosa.

At noon, power had been rerouted and the majority of the customers were back on line.

Nearly 330 homes and businesses were still without electricity, she said.

"Being without power is challenging. We thank customers for their patience as crews work as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power," said Baccega Rosa.

Specialized equipment was being delivered to the site Tuesday afternoon to help crews replace the 85-foot pole, she said.
