It could still be another day before a hundred Enbridge customers in Cookstown have their natural gas turned on.

Enbridge shutoff gas to nearly 700 customers in Cookstown after a six inch gas line was ruptured on Wednesday. The line was struck by construction crews in the area of County Road 27, near Highway 89.

No one was injured, but 20 homes were evacuated. Those residents were later allowed back home.

A controlled natural gas release has been ongoing to clear the lines of any residual air.

Technicians have been going door-to-door in an effort to manually relight equipment for customers.

Enbridge hopes to have gas restored to remaining homes by Friday night.
