A 37-year-old woman has been charged with impaired driving after allegedly leaving a seven-year-old boy at the side of the road in Southgate.

Grey County OPP officers were dispatched to receiving a report of a female driver who had stopped her vehicle on Grey Rd. 14 on Tuesday at 9:44 a.m.

Police say after leaving behind a seven-year-old boy standing at the side of the road, she then continued driving northbound on Grey Rd. 14.

Police located the suspect vehicle, a 2015 Kia Sorento, stopped in the middle of the road on Grey Rd. 14 near Southgate Road 12 with the driver passed out over the steering wheel.

A bottle of alcohol was observed next to the driver, say police.

The vehicle was carrying a five-year-old female passenger.

There were no physical injuries reported.

Police say the driver, who had been drinking alcohol, was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution due to her level of intoxication.

She was released from hospital and taken to the OPP detachment for breath tests. Police say she blew more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

The Mississauga woman was charged with care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired, care and control of a motor vehicle over 80 mgs; and fail to provide necessaries of life – child.

She is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on July 14.
