It has been a record breaking weekend for weather in our region. In Muskoka yesterday the mercury climbed past thirty onedegrees, breaking a thirty year record.

On Sunday temperatures were almost as high. They may not have broken records, but for many it was just too hot.

“The heat right now is absolutely ridiculous,” says one man doing yard work in Barrie.

But experts say the heat is here to stay.

“I think this weekend may very well be the kind of dress rehearsal or the dry run of what we see for the rest of the summer,” says Dave Phillips from Environment Canada.

“Our models and the private weather services are all saying the same thing: “Hey, get used to it.” We think that June, July and August will be warmer than normal,” he says.

But some, like the ice cream lovers, are okay with that.

One woman at the Barrie Waterfront had only one complaint. “It melts too fast! You can’t eat it fast enough!.”

Conditions are expected to cool down later in the week.
