Another day and another weather disturbance is heading our way.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for most of our region of possible blowing snow later Thursday afternoon and evening.

The statement covers the areas of Barrie, Orillia, Midland, Dufferin, Innisfil, New Tecumseth, Angus, Shelburne, Mansfield Orangeville, Grand Valley, Grey County, Bruce County, Blue Mountains, Newmarket, Georgina, Uxbridge, Beaverton, Northern Durham Region, and Northern York Region.

Environment Canada says an approaching frontal system from Northwestern Ontario and a strong Arctic high pressure area over the Ohio Valley will produce strong and Thursday afternoon ahead of the front. The combination of fresh snow and strong winds will result in blowing and drifting snow persisting tonight in exposed areas. Winds are expected to begin diminishing Friday morning.

A blowing snow warning has been issued for Parry Sound, Rosseau, Killbear Park, Southern Bruce County, Kincardine, Saugeen Shores, Bruce Peninsula, Sauble Beach and Tobermory.

Environment Canada says a strengthening southwesterly flow combined with snow in advance of a cold front is expected to produce difficult driving conditions later this afternoon and into the evening. Winds are expected to gust up to 70 km/h for areas close to Lake Huron producing a prolonged period of time of poor visibilities in blowing snow.

Motorists should drive according to the road and weather conditions and be prepared for near whiteout conditions in areas of blowing snow.
