Tensions remain high in Wasaga Beach a day after the mayor asked a councillor to leave a meeting.

Councillor Sylvia Bray was asked to apologize for using the word "cowardly" at a special meeting earlier this month.  She says she used it to describe the process council took in its decision not to sell Wasaga Power Distribution.

Bray says in that context she doesn't think it contravenes any rules. However, Mayor Brian Smith claims it goes against procedural bylaws and she needs to apologize.

"When the councillor referred to the rest of council as cowardly, that was offensive.  I know that I personally took great offence to it and the other members of council did," he says.  “At the end of the day there is a simple remedy.  You made a comment that was offensive to others and I think it's only proper that you would apologize for that."

Bray plans to review the policy and continue to attend meetings, even if she is not allowed at the council table.

“It's a shame things have come to where they have, but I’m not sure I’m willing to drop it quite yet. I truly do not believe I’ve done anything wrong," she says.

Brays says she will apologize if she has to, but is still not convinced her words, in the context they were used, calls for an apology.
