A “very intoxicated” woman had to be plucked from the waters of Lake Simcoe by police early Wednesday morning.

According to Barrie police, they received a number of calls at around 1:45 a.m. from concerned citizens. The callers reported hearing a woman yelling for help from the water near Lakeshore Drive.

Officers headed to the area and pulled the woman from the water. Police say she was clearly intoxicated, but uninjured. She was transported to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre as a precaution.

Officers were called back to the hospital a short time later after the woman became uncooperative and fled and the hospital.

Investigators located the 28-year-old in the parking lot and took her police headquarters to sober up.
