Six people including two children, suffered injuries in a multi-vehicle crash near Georgina Monday afternoon.

According to Durham Regional Police, the two vehicle collision happened in the area of Lake Ridge Road and Regional Road 12 just after 4 p.m.

Police say a northbound Kia SUV struck a southbound BMW  when the driver of the Kia made in evasive maneuver to avoid a Chrysler 300 that entered the roadway.

Investigators say the Chrysler had stopped, avoiding the collision and then continued westbound to Pefferlaw.

“We have a witness that says the vehicle that was travelling westbound from Regional 12 coming west and appears to have gone through the stop sign,” says Const. Alan Ouellette. “The white Kia was reported to have crossed that line to avoid that collision and came head-on into the BMW.”

Constable Ouellette tells CTV News the driver of the Kia was trapped inside and had to be extricated.

According to police there were two children inside the Kia, 8 and 10-years-old. The one child was taken to Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto with serious injuries, while the driver and other child were taken to a local hospital in Uxbridge and then airlifted to Toronto.

The three other people, in a BMW, were taken to Southlake Hospital in Newmarket. Police say those injured are in serious but non-life threatening condition.

Police are asking for the driver of the blue Chrysler to contact them.
