A Stouffville man was taken to a Toronto hospital with very serious injuries following an crash early Saturday morning east of Stouffville.

Durham Regional Police say the 23-year-old man was driving east on Concession Road 9 near Westney Road North just before 7:00 p.m. on Saturday morning when his vehicle collided head-on with an SUV that was heading west.

The man had to be cut out of his car by emergency workers and airlifted to Toronto. His passenger, a 21-year-old woman, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of an SUV, a 50-year-old woman from Brooklin, was also airlifted to Toronto with very serious injuries.

Police tell CTV News alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident.

The road was closed for several hours while evidence was collected from the crash scene.
