Minor injuries are reported in a T-bone crash involving a tractor trailer and a pickup truck west of Alliston.

According to provincial police, the tractor trailer was travelling along Airport Road on Wednesday, at around 9 a.m. when the crash happened at the intersection of Highway 89.

The OPP say the impact of the crash pushed the pickup truck through the intersection and into a ditch. The two vehicles then continued into a traffic light, knocking it over.

Emergency crews had to raise the pickup truck in order to free the driver. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the transport truck also suffered non-life threatening injuries.

“Very lucky to be alive,” says OPP Const. Paul Nancekivell. “The truck is basically destroyed. A few more feet and the truck would have been right on top of him.”

The tractor trailer was carrying 40 cows at the time of the crash, 10 of which briefly escaped. Two cows died in the crash; the others were taken to Cookstown for veterinarian assessment.

The intersection of Airport Road and Highway 89 was closed for several hours, but has since reopened.
