A Toronto man has been charged after allegedly breaking into an Alcona tow yard to get his vehicle.

South Simcoe Police was contacted on Friday night by the owner of the towing company, who informed officers that he was watching video of a man breaking into the compound.

The owner told police that the towing company was contacted earlier in the day by a man looking to retrieve a vehicle from the lot.

The caller was informed that the operators were out of town and would have to wait. The owner claims the caller became irate and stated he was going to get his car.

By the time officers arrived at the compound, police say the gate was damaged and the man was trying to remove his car. When officers confronted the man, he was “combative” and a brief struggled ensued.

The 46-year-old was eventually arrested and charged with mischief, break and enter, attempt theft and assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest.

Investigators say they later learned that the man was arrested in the past week for failing to provide a breath sample and as a result his vehicle was impounded.

The accused will appear before a court in October.
