The torch relay for the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto will stop in multiple areas in our region.

Alliston, Aurora, Barrie, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Caledon, Collinwood, Gravenhurst, Huntsville, Midland, Newmarket, Orangeville, Orillia, Owen Sound, Parry Sound, and Whitchurch- Stouffville will all be stops on the torch’s nationwide tour.  

Organizers say it will be carried by 3,000 people during its 41-day journey.

Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfied was named the first torchbearer in a press conference Wednesday.

The relay will begin on May 30th 2015 in Toronto, and end on July 10th.

The Pan Am Games organizers have opened a competition to enter to be a torchbearer, and will pick the winners randomly.

They are looking for people over the age of 13 by May 30th, 2015, and will choose the winners in December.

A separate Parapan Am Torch Relay will start on August 7th, 2015.
