Two men are in hospital after another targeted shooting in Barrie.

Barrie police were called to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre on Monday evening after two men arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds.

Investigators later learned that the 21 and 22 year olds were involved in an altercation at a home on Hickling Trail in the city’s northeast end, just after 5 p.m.

Police believe this is when the two victims were shot.

"We believe the victims and the suspects were known to one another at this point the circumstances are still being investigated," says Barrie police Const. Sarah Bamford.

A noxious smell, believed to be bear or pepper spray, left a musk in the air around the home. Police suspect the spray was used during the altercation.

The two suffered non-life threatening injuries. Police say one suspect is still outstanding.

The shooting has left people living nearby shocked and concerned.

“I had two kids home when this happened. They could have been walking down the street; something could have happened to them,” says Diane Louge.

“This stuff shouldn't be happening. To have the police here all day and all night is surreal,” says John Vey.

This is Barrie’s second targeted shooting this month. On Aug. 13, a man was shot on Mulcaster Street in the city’s downtown after a fight.

One of the men wanted in that shooting, 21-year-old Max Cameron Pritchett of Barrie, is still at large.

There isn’t any indication that the two shootings are related.

Anyone with information to either shooting is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
