A handgun that was stolen from a Peel Regional Police officer’s personal car in Barrie has been located.

Barrie police say the stolen Smith and Wesson .40 calibre handgun, all 46 rounds of ammunition, handcuffs and a pouch were located at a home on Clapperton Street on Tuesday. A batton and pepper spray are still missing. Two men in their 20s were arrested at the residence.

The equipment was stolen from inside the officer’s personal car over the weekend.

One of the men is charged with uttering threats to cause death, possession of a restricted firearm, theft under $5,000, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace and three counts of failing to comply with a sentence. The other man is charged with theft under $5,000.

Police are thanking the public for providing information that led to the arrests. The investigation is ongoing.

Peel Regional Police are also conducting an internal investigation. It's unclear if the officer will be disciplined.
