Environment Canada has expanded to its special weather statement for potential snow coming to our region.

A special weather statement was issued Thursday morning for Orangeville, Grand Valley, Dufferin County, Shelburne, Dundalk, Owen Sound, Blue Mountains, Grey County, Parry Sound, Rosseau, Huntsville and Haliburton.

On Friday, that statement expanded to include Barrie, Collingwood and Hillsdale.

Precipitation has begun over areas near Georgian Bay and will spread eastward to the Ottawa Valley by midday on Friday.

Current models show that snowfall amounts of two to five centimetres will be possible south of Georgian Bay Friday night, particularly over areas of higher elevation.

To the east of Georgian Bay, total amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres will be possible on Friday and Saturday. However actual snowfall accumulation on the ground may be less due to melting on the relatively warm ground.

The snow is expected to taper off Saturday morning as the systems moves out of the region
