The clown hoax that has been happening across the country has reached Innisfil after a social media post targeted a high school.

South Simcoe Police say they received several complaints about messages being posted on Instagram. These messages stated that people dressed as clowns were planning to attend Nantyr Shores Secondary School in Alcona.

"We've looked at the messaging, and determined there's no imminent threat to students," said Const. Rich Williamson in a statement. "We're aware of the situation, and our school liaison officer was speaking to students on Thursday.”

Williamson says they are taking these postings seriously and are urging parents to speak with their children.

“The safety of our students is of the utmost importance. Anyone who knows who is behind this behaviour should give us a call. It's really a form of bullying, and students know that reporting it is the first step in stopping it."

Officers with cybercrime training are working to track down the posters.
