A Tiny Township man has been airlifted to hospital, following a snowmobile crash near Penetanguishene.

According to OPP, the 44-year-old snowmobiler was using an Ontario Federation of Snowmobiles Clubs trail north of 17th Concession near Champlain Road, when he struck a tree.

Police are unclear when the initial crash took place.

The man was found on the trail unconscious by a group of snowmobilers on Friday.

Police say the victim has been airlifted to a Toronto hospital with critical injuries.

The circumstance surrounding the crash is unclear.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit is investigating.
