The province's police watchdog is investigating the death of a man in cottage country, north of Huntsville, this morning.
The Special Investigations Unit says provincial police were contacted Wednesday morning about a man in Burk's Falls with a firearm.
They say the 54-year-old suffered a firearm injury and was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
A tense situation today, Wednesday, July 16, that left one man dead from a gunshot wound is now under investigation by the Special Investigation Unit.
The shooting happened near the corner of Berriedale and North Pickerel Lake roads at a road construction site at about 6 a.m.
