Ward 3 councillor Doug Shipley has announced he is no longer looking to make the jump to Queen's Park.

In a Facebook post, Shipley wrote he will no longer enter the race for the Progressive Conservative nomination for the new riding of Barrie-Innisfil in next year's provincial election.

The decision was made after "a lot of heartfelt deliberation." He wants to commit more time to family and local politics.

Shipley is in his second term on Barrie council.

PC leader Patrick Brown has already confirmed he will seek the nomination in the new Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte riding.
