Something that was a familiar sight on Barrie's waterfront in the summer has found a new home in Penetanguishene.

After years of sailing in and around Penetanguishene Harbour, the Georgian Queen has been retired. This has cleared the way for the Serendipity Princess to make its way into the harbour.

The boat was built in 1982 and has been operating in Barrie for years.

The Dubeau family bought Serendipity it in 1995. A few years ago its owners tried to sell it, but many people in the Georgian Bay community are thrilled did not.

Gerry Marshall is the town’s mayor and says the arrival of the Serendipity is just what the community needs.

The town is also spending $6 million on a new two year downtown beautification project. He says those two things combined should help. Last year the boat carried about 15,000 passengers.

The Serendipity Princess will be in Penetanguishene for at least the next five years, where it will run from May to October, before heading to Port Severn for the fall colour season.
