The province is investing $11.1 million in Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, while also providing $3.2 million to four other hospitals in the Simcoe County and Muskoka region.

During an announcement on Friday, the Ontario government announced they will provide $9.1 million to RVH in Barrie. That money will be used to help build a new advance cardiac centre.

“We all know someone who has been impacted by heart disease,” Janice Skot, president and CEO of RVH said in a statement. “Thanks to the provincial government’s support, heart patients throughout North Simcoe Muskoka will soon have access to the gold standard of lifesaving cardiac services.”

The program is being developed in partnership with Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket.

The government will also provide RVH with $2 million in operating funding.

At the same time, the province has announced operating funding for four other health care facilities.

Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is getting more than $2 million, while both Muskoka Algonqiun Healthcare and Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital will receive more than half a million dollars.

Collingwood’s General and Marine Hospital will also receive more than $180,000.

“With this new and important funding, we are working to ensure that patients have faster access to the right care, now and in the future,” said Minister of Health and Long-Term Care Dr. Eric Hoskins in a statement.

The province set aside $51.8 billion in the 2016 budget for health care investments.

“Making these necessary investments in our health care system is part of our commitment to put patients first by ensuring they get the high-quality health care they need – when they need it.”

Construction is set to start on the new centre this fall and is expected to be completed by the spring.
