More than a thousand people showed up along Barrie’s waterfront to walk, remember and raise money for breast cancer research on Sunday.

The CIBC Run for the Cure was held at Heritage Park and more than 1,100 people took part.

“I am a four year cancer survivor of breast cancer and with the funds raised it will definitely help towards other people’s survival rates,” says Eve Cottom.

Statistics say this year 5,000 Canadian women will die from breast cancer. But Danielle Levangie is living proof early detection is how you beat cancer.

“The size of the lump I found was smaller than a grain of rice and if I didn’t find it I wouldn’t be here today,” says Levangie.

Sunday’s run raised more than $180,000 for the fight against cancer.
