All roads have reopened and GO train service has resumed after a major gas leak in Aurora.

Natural gas spewed into the air on Tuesday afternoon after a construction crew ruptured a six inch gas line along Wellington Street.

The rupture happened just two feet away from a building and near the Aurora GO train station. An evacuation order was issued for about 20 homes and all streets were shut down within a three block radius.

The gas leak crippled GO transit along the Barrie line, forcing Metrolinx to suspend trains north of Aurora.

“It was not safe to travel on the Barrie line so we couldn’t operate any trains on that line,” Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins said.

The gas leak has since been repaired and all disruptions have been cleared.

Aikens encourages people affected by the service disruption apply for a refund under the Fare Guarantee program.
