Residents of a south Barrie neighbourhood are taking the problem of speeding into their own hands.

People on Coughlin Road are posting signs asking people not to speed, as well as taking down licence plate numbers, and asking Barrie city council to spend more time on the issue.

The action comes after a child was injured by a speeding car last month.

“My niece was up visiting from out of town and she was crossing the road when she got hit,” said Coughlin Street resident Amy Markle.

City Councillor John Brassard says there used to be a speed bump on the street, but says bringing it back at this point is a costly proposition.

“I could put them in all 93 streets in the ward; there's that much of a demand for them -- but they're costly.”

Speed bumps costs around $6,000 each to install.
