Residents are expressing frustration over fencing that went up along Barrie’s Waterfront at Centennial Park, but the city says the fencing is necessary for construction.

The fencing went up over the past few days around an area that is soon to be under construction. Many residents are expressing their frustration, saying the fencing is making parking and access to the waterfront difficult.

“We’ve had to park two parking lots over, because the main one is full and the one right beside it is all fenced off. And we can’t even park on the street because it’s all blocked off by the fence,” says one woman walking along the waterfront.

But others say while the fencing is inconvenient, they understand the construction has to happen.

“It’s going to have to be dealt with at some point or another. If the kids are back in school, there’s gonna be buses going around,” says one man near the park.

The city says the work needs to be done now, despite the events going on along the park over the next few weeks.
