As temperatures get ready to plummet, Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold weather warning for most of the province.
The weather authority says a cold arctic air will return to the region on Sunday, bringing a northwesterly wind and “possible record setting minimum temperatures.” Environment Canada is predicting temperatures between -30 C and -40 C overnight with the wind chill.
The extreme cold weather warning has been issued for the following communities:
- Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale
- Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake
- Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago
- Innisfil - New Tecumseth - Angus
- Orangeville - Grand Valley - Southern Dufferin County
- Shelburne - Mansfield - Northern Dufferin County
- Dunnville - Caledonia - Haldimand
- Caledon
- Bracebridge - Gravenhurst
- Huntsville - Baysville
- Port Carling - Port Severn
- Town of Parry Sound - Rosseau - Killbear Park
- Newmarket - Georgina - Northern York Region
- Uxbridge - Beaverton - Northern Durham Region
- Vaughan - Richmond Hill – Markham
Environment Canada warns that these freezing temperatures can pose a serious health risk. In some cases, people exposed to the extreme cold for a long period of time can suffer from hypothermia and frost bite.
