Big parking lots with handy dumpsters are creating a problem at some of our local schools. Staff members are finding trashed dumped on school property.

The dumpster at Worsley elementary street school in Wasaga Beach is overflowing with garbage. Staffs say everything including compost, electronics and furniture has been illegally dumped.

The school board says it’s not only costing more to clean up the garbage, but it’s also a health and safety issue for students and teachers.

“We’re asking our neighbours to watch, but we have to immediately remove the waste,” said Jessica Kukac, environmental systems co-ordination with the Simcoe County district school board.  “We can’t be leaving around, it’s unsafe and unsanitary.”

The school board says it will follow up on any tips about people illegally dumping garbage on school property. The fine for illegally dumping garbage varies in each municipality.
