The provincial government officially announced their intention to build two new GO stations in Innisfil and Newmarket.

During a news conference on Friday morning in Newmarket, Ontario Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca announced plans to construct the two stations on the Barrie GO line.

In Innisifl the station would be built just south of Alcona at the railway crossing and the 6th Line.

A second station is also proposed for Newmarket. That station would be built in the area of Mulock Drive.

The Metrolinx board still has to approve the two proposals. That vote is scheduled to happen next week.

If approved, construction on the new stations could start in 2018.
