The province has announced funding that will help bring expanded mental health care to youths in Simcoe County and Muskoka.

Minister of Health and Long-Term Care Dr. Eric Hoskins announced $3.2 million in annual funding for Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s Child and Youth Mental Health Program on Monday.

The money will be used to create eight inpatient beds, a day program and capacity for approximately 3,000 outpatient visits annually.

“This investment in a comprehensive Child and Youth Mental Health Program is a game changer for our region,” said RVH president and CEO Janice Skot in a statement. “By providing care closer to home, RVH and its partners will significantly ease the burden for young people and their families throughout North Simcoe Muskoka."

The new program is expected to reduce wait times for mental health services for youth in the area, and reduce the amount of travel required to access these services.

An exact opening date is still unclear.
