The Ontario government announced $10.7 million in funding to build a new school in Bradford that will replace St. Charles Catholic School.

Barrie MP Ann Hoggarth made the annoucement Friday.

"The investment announced today will have a strong impact on students’ learning experience and will help them reach their full potential,” said Hoggarth.

The new school will be built in the same location as the current school and will accommodate up to 470 students and two child care centre rooms.

Bradford West Gwillimbury is a high growth area and this new facility will help alleviate accommodation pressure in schools within the community, the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board said in a press release.

School board staff will be working on the design of the new school over the next couple of months.

The province also announced additions and improvements to four other schools across the region including:

  • An addition for 141 students to Cameron Street Public School in Collingwood to relieve accommodation pressure.
  • An addition for 92 students to Mountain View Elementary School in Collingwood to relieve accommodation pressure
  • Renovation of Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute facility to accommodate 800 elementary students.
  • Renovation of the existing West Hill Secondary School to accommodate students from Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute.
