A Port McNicoll man has died after being struck by a streetcar on Saturday night in Toronto.

Emergency crews were called to Gerrard Street and Broadview Avenue, just after 8 p.m. Paramedics say the man was struck and pinned under the street car and had to be extricated.

The man was rushed to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in critical condition, but died overnight. Investigators have since identified the victim as 63-year-old Norman Tobey.

In an email sent to CTV News, a woman identifying herself as Tobey’s niece described him as a man with a huge heart and a beautiful smile.

“He was very loved and will forever be missed by his whole family.”

The woman also said Tobey had 13 siblings and was an uncle to several nieces and nephews.
