A popular restaurant in Pefferlaw lies in ruins after a large fire tore through the building early Thursday morning.

The fire started at about 5 a.m at the Old Johnson’s Marina Restaurant, which was well known in the community.

Viewer video sent to CTV News shows flames shooting high into the sky at the height of the fire.

“There was lots of black smoke … flames,” said William Browning, an area resident. “There were actually other neighbours standing on the side of the road so we joined them. It was quite intense.”

Fire crews were still putting out hot spots later in the afternoon.

“We're working on hot spots,” said Georgina Fire’s Deputy Fire Chief Michael Rozario. “We have utilized all three stations at this fire.”

The area will be blocked off until the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office can determine the cause.

There were no injuries.
