A disturbing mystery in Springwater Township deepened Thursday, as police widen their search in a rural area where human remains were found.

For the second day, investigators combed through bushy area that included the Simcoe County forest north of Midhurst.

"We're doing our best to gather evidence as we're going along," said OPP Constable Mark Kinney.

According to the OPP, a person walking a dog through a section of the forest in the Hillview Crescent and Gill Road area made the discovery on Wednesday afternoon.

The area where the remains were found is a well-known path used by people who live in the area.

For most of Thursday police closed a section of Gill Road from Horseshoe Valley Road to Craig Road. Police will close that section of road again Friday at 8:30 a.m.

A post-mortem has been ordered. The autopsy is scheduled to take place in Toronto on Friday.

The remains have not yet been identified and police have not said whether foul play is suspected.
