Police and the Ontario Fire Marshal are investigating two suspicious fires that happened overnight in south Barrie.

Fire crews were called to Carley Crescent just after 11:00 p.m. for fire to a home and about an hour later they were called to another fire a few blocks away on Grace Crescent.

Barrie Fire spokesperson Samantha Hoffaman tells CTV News both fires were started on the outside of the homes and causes significant damage.

“I have no clue, it was very, I just don’t know,” says Rachel Keith who lived at the home on Grace Crescent.

Nine people were living at the home on Grace Crescent and fire officials say accommodations are being arranged for people who were living in both houses.

Nobody was injured in the fires but a Barrie Police officer was sent to hospital with smoke inhalation.

Barrie Police is treating both fires as suspicious and looking to speak with anybody who might have witnessed the fires.

The combined damage of both home was over $300,000 and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office says they will not comment on the causes of the fires until the investigation is complete.
