Barrie OPP and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) spent Thursday morning trying to locate an injured bear that had collided with a car.

Police said a car collided with a “full sized bear”  around 7:20 a.m. on Old Barrie Road between Penetanguishene Road and Line 1 in Oro-Medonte.

The collision happened near W.R. Best Public School. Police contacted school officials and the students have secured for safety the OPP stated in a press release.

The driver was shaken, but not injured.

Another driver captured a picture of the bear on their dashcam moments after the bear was hit.

Police and the MNRF extensively searched the area surrounding the school but couldn't locate the bear.
