A dog owner has been charged after police say the animal was left in a hot car in Huntsville on Sunday.

According to the OPP, the dog was spotted in the car on Main Street East in Huntsville, at around 4:15 p.m. The back window was open just a few inches, but provincial police say the Husky appeared to be in stress.

Officers were able to unlock the back door and get the dog out of the car. The Husky named Ace became ill and was taken to a nearby store where he was given some water.

His condition was considered poor, but he has since improved.

Temperatures across the region hovered above 30 C over the weekend. Police report the temperature inside the car was extremely hot.

The owner, a 27-year-old man, has been charged with cause damage or injury to animal.

He will appear in court next month.
